This is a short review of the Korg M50 Synth Workstation. The Korg M50 comes in a 88 key version, a 73 key version, and a 61 key version. For the price this is actually one of the best options of keyboard from Korg and most of the users you will find are generally really happy with the quality and the sound of this synth. In my opinion when it comes to the sounds All the stock sounds can be used unedited by the newbie and they’ll be satisfied with the good quality and clarity! To the more experienced user, they’ll be seen as terrific starting points to generate your very own sounds!
All the parameters are incredibly easy to change and do not require you to delve too deep into a clumsy operating system. It is incredibly user friendly and I was able to get right into it without needing to look at the manual. I dare say that I only scraped the surface of this keyboards capabilities though. You can dive VERY deep into the workings of the sounds and put together different sounds layered on top! I was really happy with the quality and as I said before, for this type of cost I can not think of anything better!
To get a little more technical, the M50 uses Korg’s acclaimed EDS (Enhanced Definition Synthesis) sound generation system which is the exact same technology that is used on the more high-priced M3 synth. (It costs nearer $2000) Korg themselves claim this to be their best sound engine! Which considering the Korg machines of years passed, this is quite a claim by them!
