Piano chords for beginners- How to form Major Chords

Ok now that you know how to form Scales, you now can move on to piano chords. For beginners this might seem complicated but it is actually very easy. If you now have a really good understanding of Scales and how to form them the forming any kind of chord is simple.

And basically you use the same kind of formula for any chord but here we are going to learn how to form major chords. So basically the simple formula for forming a major chord is you take any note on the keyboard like lets take D. Ok so lets make a D chord your first note will be D. Ok from there you go up two whole steps and you have a Gb. Then from there you go up one step and a half and you get A, that is how you form a D major chord. So a D major chord is D Gb A and you can use that same formula to find any major chord off the piano. There is only 12 because there is only 12 possible notes on the piano but you should learn how to form a major chord off of each one of them. So the formula is a Note like C go up
Two steps, second note
One step and a half third note.
So a C major chord would be C E and G. Ok that is very simple so learn all the major chords on the keyboard and also learn the inversions.

A inversion is taking any chord and turning it upside down. So if a C major chord is C E G then what you will do is invert that one time and you will have E G C then the third inversion is G C E. Se you just flip the chord and you WILL be using inversions just as much as you use chords so you need to start practicing every major chord and also the three different inversions that go with it.

Now you can get a major chord chard and memorize all the chords, but it is a lot better to understand how they are formed believe me. You don’t want to just memorize them off a chart your playing will be very limited if you don’t understand the theory behind everything you do.
